Is SCANDALINEN Legit? How to Check Any Linen Brand

If you are about to spend a few hundred dollars with a linen brand you found this week, you should check it first. Here is everything you need to verify us — and the same five-minute method you can point at any other brand.

Is SCANDALINEN a real company?

Yes. SCANDALINEN was founded in Hanoi in 2018 and runs its own sewing workshop — we are the maker, not a dropshipper reselling someone else's stock. To date we have completed over 30,000 orders for more than 10,000 retail customers, with a repeat purchase rate of about 70%. We supply 30+ eco-conscious homestays and boutique hotels, and we have produced private-label runs for Ocochi (UK) and Sleeping Dove. You can reach a human on email at scandalinen@gmail.com or on WhatsApp at +84 936 188 661, Vietnam time (GMT+7).

Verify any linen brand in five minutes

Run this on us, and on whoever else you are considering. A brand that cannot answer all five is reselling, not making.

  1. Ask for the OEKO-TEX® certificate. Standard 100 means the finished fabric was laboratory-tested for over 100 harmful substances and renewed annually. A logo on a page is not a certificate; ask for the number.
  2. Ask for GSM and flax origin. "100% linen" says nothing about weight or fibre length. Ours is 100% European flax, 160–175 GSM, woven 250–280 cm wide so wide beds have no centre seam.
  3. Ask who sews it. If the answer is vague, the brand does not know. Ours is sewn by master tailors in our Hanoi workshop — many of them experienced garment workers pushed out of export factories in their late forties.
  4. Message them and time the reply. A real workshop answers within a day, in a real voice, and can tell you what is currently in production.
  5. Read the returns policy for specifics. Vague policies are a warning. Ours: 30 days, full refund of the item price, buyer pays return shipping unless the item is defective — in which case we refund everything and arrange free pickup.

What we are not — stated plainly

Trust runs both ways, so here are the things people are sometimes surprised by:

  • We are not fast. Everything is cut and sewn to order, and international delivery takes 3–4 weeks. If you need bedding on Friday, buy locally.
  • Customs duties are yours. International orders may attract local duties and taxes, which we cannot pay on your behalf.
  • Return shipping is yours unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong thing.
  • Linen is a natural fabric. Slight colour variation between batches and 2–3% shrinkage after washing are normal, not defects. Our fabric is pre-washed so most of that has already happened.
  • We are not the cheapest. We are a small workshop, not a factory running 5,000-unit lots.

What "French linen made in Vietnam" actually means

This confuses people, so: the flax is grown and the fabric is woven in Europe — France, Belgium and the Netherlands produce the world's best long-fibre flax. The bedding is cut, sewn and finished by hand in our workshop in Hanoi. Both halves of that sentence are things we will put in writing. A brand that blurs the line between where the fabric is made and where the product is made is worth a second look.

Red flags when buying linen online

  • No GSM anywhere on the site.
  • "Linen" or "linen look" without a stated fibre percentage — usually a blend.
  • Only styled stock photography, never the workshop or the people.
  • An OEKO-TEX logo with no certificate number available on request.
  • A full "100% French linen" queen set for under $120.
  • No phone number, no named human, and replies that read like a template.
