Linen Fitted Sheets for Thin Mattresses: Getting the Depth Right

Linen Fitted Sheets for Thin Mattresses: Getting the Depth Right

You pull the fitted sheet tight, tuck the spare fabric underneath, and by morning it has gathered again. If your mattress is thin, the problem may be the sheet’s depth rather than its elastic.

SCANDALINEN makes linen fitted sheets to your mattress width, length and depth, including shallow mattresses. Send the actual measurements, including any topper that will sit inside the sheet. We confirm the fit details and quote before payment, with no minimum order. Allow about 3–4 weeks from order to receipt.

Why a deep-pocket sheet can feel loose

A fitted sheet is shaped around three dimensions. The top needs to match the width and length of the mattress; the sides need enough depth to reach around it. A sheet designed for a much deeper mattress can leave more fabric underneath and around the edges than you want.

Depth is not the only possible cause. A sheet that is too wide, a topper that moves, or worn elastic can also change the fit. Check all three measurements before deciding you need a new sheet.

A fitted sheet needs the right depth as well as the right width and length.

Measure a thin mattress in three steps

  1. Width: measure across the mattress itself, not the bed frame.
  2. Length: measure from the head to the foot of the mattress.
  3. Depth: measure from the bottom of the mattress to the top of the sleeping surface, including the topper if you use one under the sheet.

Keep the mattress in the shape in which it is used and avoid compressing it while measuring. For a rounded or soft edge, placing a straight object across the top can help you see where the upper surface sits.

Send those actual dimensions. Do not add extra centimetres for the fabric that tucks underneath; we will account for construction when we confirm the sheet specification. Use cm or inches consistently.

Tell us what sits under the sheet

A thin mattress used alone and the same mattress with a thick topper need different fitted-sheet depths. A mattress protector can matter too if it adds noticeable bulk. Describe the complete arrangement you want the sheet to cover.

If the mattress folds, lifts or has a cut corner, mention that at the start. A rectangular measurement does not describe an unusual shape. We may need a sketch and further measurements before confirming whether the request is suitable.

This guide is for ordinary bedding requests. For infant sleep products or specialist medical mattresses, follow the product manufacturer’s fitted-sheet and safety requirements rather than adapting general bedding advice.

Send the measured mattress depth; the workshop will confirm the sheet construction.

Example: keep the mattress size separate from the sheet size

For an adult mattress measuring 90 × 200 × 12 cm, your request can say “mattress: 90 cm wide, 200 cm long, 12 cm deep, no topper.” Those are mattress dimensions, not cutting dimensions or a promise that every finished sheet dimension will be identical.

If you later add a 5 cm topper, measure the combined setup again before ordering. Do not use the old 12 cm depth for a sheet that must now cover both layers.

How to order a shallow fitted linen sheet

Browse French linen bedding and send a link to the colour you like. In your custom quote request, include:

  • Mattress width × length × total depth, with units.
  • Whether you use a topper or a bulky protector.
  • Any folding section, rounded end or cut corner.
  • Fabric, colour and number of sheets.
  • Your complete delivery address and phone number.

We make custom bedding in our Hanoi workshop and confirm the specifications by email before payment. You can order one sheet. There is no separate design fee; the quote depends on the fabric, dimensions and details.

Allow about 3–4 weeks from order to receipt. The confirmed payment total includes applicable shipping and all other charges, with nothing extra to pay when the parcel arrives. Check our shipping information and returns policy before confirming the order.

Common questions about shallow fitted sheets

Is a deeper pocket always better?

No. It needs to suit your mattress and topper. Extra depth can leave unwanted fabric on a thin mattress.

Can I order only a fitted sheet?

Yes. There is no minimum order, and you do not need to buy matching pillowcases or a duvet cover.

What if I have a deep mattress instead?

Measure the same three dimensions. Our deep-pocket fitted sheet guide explains what to check for a thicker setup.

See the custom bedding service, or send your measurements and we will help you check the fit.
