Oversized Bed Bedding: Alaskan, Wyoming and Custom Kings

Oversized beds are sold everywhere. The bedding for them is not. If you have an Alaskan King, a Wyoming King, a split base or a bed a joiner built for the room, this is the practical version of what to do.

Where do you buy sheets for an oversized bed?

From a maker who cuts to order, because the retail size chart stops before your bed starts. Standard luxury bedding tops out around a US King (264 cm) and a depth of roughly 43 cm. Alaskan King (274 × 274 cm), Wyoming King (213 × 213 cm), Texas King (244 × 269 cm), Family and Vermont Kings, wide European doubles and bespoke platform beds all sit outside it. We cut any width and length at standard price — and because our fabric is woven 250–280 cm wide, most oversized sheets can be made in a single piece with no seam running down the centre of the bed.

Names are not standardised between manufacturers, which is the first trap. Measure the mattress yourself rather than ordering by the name on the invoice.

The centre seam problem

This is the detail that separates a good oversized sheet from a frustrating one. Most bedding fabric is woven around 240 cm wide. For anything wider, the maker has to join two panels — and that join lands in the middle of the bed, exactly where you sleep. You feel it, and it is the first place the sheet wears through.

Wide-loom fabric avoids it. Ask any supplier one question before you order an oversized sheet: how wide is your fabric, and will my sheet have a centre seam? If they cannot answer, the seam is coming.

Two more things oversized beds need

• A duvet that actually covers the bed. On beds wider than 240 cm a standard King duvet leaves the edges bare. Either order an oversized cover, or use the Scandinavian two-duvet method — two separate covers, one each, which also ends the tug-of-war.
• Deeper fitted sheets. Oversized beds often pair with deep hybrid or pillow-top mattresses. Measure the depth at its thickest point, add 5 cm, and order to that number rather than to a "deep pocket" label that may only mean 35 cm.

Do you make Alaskan and Wyoming King bedding? Yes — those and any dimension in between or beyond. Send the measurements in centimetres.

Will an oversized sheet have a seam down the middle? Not with us up to the width our fabric allows. If a bed exceeds even that, we tell you before you order rather than after.

Is oversized bedding more expensive? It uses more fabric, so larger sizes cost more than smaller ones — but we do not charge a custom surcharge on top. The price tracks the size, not the fact that it is bespoke.

Can I get an oversized duvet cover and standard pillowcases? Yes. Mix any sizes and any of our 50+ colours; sets are built, not pre-packed.
