Machine wash cold (30°C / 86°F) on a gentle cycle. Use mild, natural detergent avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which break down natural fibers over time. Tumble dry low or line dry in shade. Warm iron if needed. Wash separately for the first time to prevent color transfer.
We handcraft every order at our workshop in Vietnam using premium European flax linen. Please allow 3–4 weeks from order date to delivery (including production and international shipping). You'll receive a tracking number once your order ships.
We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for unused, unwashed items in original condition. Contact us at scandalinen@gmail.com to initiate a return or exchange.
How long does shipping take?
Orders typically arrive within 3–4 weeks from the order date. This includes handcrafting time at our Vietnam workshop and international shipping. We'll send you a tracking number as soon as your order is on its way.
Is linen fabric rough or stiff?
New linen may feel crisp at first — this is completely normal. It softens significantly after the first few washes and becomes one of the most comfortable fabrics you'll own. Pre-washing before use is recommended.
I'm buying from Vietnam — is that a concern?
Not at all. We're a Vietnam-based workshop using European flax linen and high quality blended linen and we ship internationally every week. All orders are carefully packed and tracked. If anything goes wrong in transit, we'll make it right.
Will the color fade over time?
Our fabrics are dyed for durability. Avoid bleach and harsh detergents to maintain color. Some natural softening of tone may occur over years of use, which is characteristic of quality linen.
Does linen wrinkle easily?
Yes and that's part of its charm. Linen's natural texture and relaxed wrinkles are a signature of the fabric. If you prefer a smoother look, iron while slightly damp on medium heat.
Can I return or exchange if the size doesn't fit?
Yes. We accept returns within 30 days for unused, unwashed items in original condition. Contact us at scandalinen@gmail.com and we'll guide you through the process.
Are your products safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. We use natural fibers free from harmful chemicals, gentle on all skin types including sensitive skin.
Do you offer gift packaging?
Yes, all orders are packed neatly and suitable for gifting.
All dimensions are listed in both centimeters and inches on each product page. Sizes follow standard US/AU/UK bedding conventions.

A natural pillow insert filled with kapok fiber grown in Vietnam and handmade by our artisans in Hanoi. Soft, breathable, and entirely plant-based. The vegan alternative to down that you have probably been hearing about.
This is the pillow we put inside our own French linen pillowcases. We are not going to pretend it feels exactly like down. It is its own thing. Lighter, more breathable, and with a gentle fluffiness that does not flatten the way down does over time.
Kapok is the silky fiber from the seed pods of the kapok tree, which grows in tropical regions across Southeast Asia, including parts of southern Vietnam. The pods drop naturally when ripe. The fiber is harvested by hand, separated from the seeds, and cleaned. No pesticides. No irrigation. No chemicals. The tree is not harmed in the process.
For centuries before synthetic fillings existed, kapok was the standard for pillows and mattresses in Asia. People in Vietnamese villages still call it "bông gòn." Our grandmothers slept on it. We are bringing it back, made properly, for people who want a natural fiber pillow that performs as well as it sleeps clean.
Eight times lighter than cotton. Kapok fibers are hollow at the molecular level, so air moves through them freely. A queen-size kapok pillow weighs about 600 grams compared to over 1.5 kg for a cotton-filled equivalent.
Naturally hypoallergenic. Kapok contains natural compounds that resist dust mites, mold, and bacteria. For people with eczema, allergies, or sensitive skin, this matters every night. Learn more about why natural fibers are better for sensitive skin.
Cool for hot sleepers. The hollow fiber structure means heat does not get trapped near your face. Air circulates through the pillow as you move. People who switch from down or memory foam usually notice this within the first few nights.
Vegan and cruelty-free. No animals involved at any point. Down and feather pillows come from ducks and geese in industrial farming conditions. Kapok comes from a tree.
Holds its shape. Unlike down, which compresses and needs daily fluffing, kapok keeps its loft. You may need to massage the pillow into shape after a few weeks of use, but it does not go flat the way down does after a year.
The kapok is sourced from small Vietnamese farms, mostly in Dong Thap and Tay Ninh provinces. We buy raw fiber, hand-clean it again at our workshop in Hanoi, and fluff it before filling.
The outer shell is a tightly woven cotton-polyester blend. This is intentional. Pure cotton or linen shells let the fine kapok fibers escape through the weave over time, which means dust and lint everywhere. The cotton-poly shell is dense enough to contain the kapok completely while still allowing air to move through. This is the same fabric used in professional pillow inserts worldwide. The shell stays inside your linen pillowcase, so you never see or feel it.
Every pillow is sewn and filled by hand by one of our 100+ artisans at our Hanoi workshop. Read more about the artisans who make our products.
| Size | Dimensions | Fits which pillowcase |

Kapok pillows are not machine washable. The hollow fibers absorb water and become very heavy when wet, and they take a long time to dry properly. Once kapok gets soaked, it is hard to restore the original loft.
Day-to-day care is simple. Always use a pillowcase, which protects the insert from oils and dust. Air the pillow in the sun once every few weeks. This is enough for most cleaning needs. For spills, spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry completely in the sun before using again.
If the pillow flattens slightly over months of use, massage and fluff the kapok by hand to restore loft.
This pillow insert is designed to go inside our French Linen Pillowcases. The combination is what we sleep on at home. The kapok keeps your head cool. The stonewashed linen breathes and softens with every wash. Together they outperform anything we have tested.
For best results, choose your linen pillowcase in the same size as your kapok insert. If you are building out a full bed, explore our French Linen Bedding Sets or our Bamboo Linen Collection for a softer alternative.
We are not a kapok company. We make linen bedding. But once we started shipping pillowcases internationally, customers kept asking what pillow we recommend inside. We tried down. We tried polyester. We tried wool. Nothing worked the way we wanted with the linen pillowcase, until we went back to what Vietnamese grandmothers have been using for generations.
This is that pillow. Made the way our grandmothers would have made it, by hand, in Hanoi. If you want to understand more about what makes our bedding different, read our honest guide to linen sheets.
Made to order. Each pillow is filled by hand after you place your order. Lead time is 7 to 10 days for production, plus shipping. Available worldwide.
