We make both, so this is not going to end with "linen wins". Bamboo and linen fail and succeed at different things, and the honest answer depends on one question: do you want the bed to feel cool the instant you get in, or to stay comfortable at 4am?
Bamboo or linen sheets — which is better?
Bamboo feels cooler in the first minute. Linen performs better across the whole night and lasts three to five times longer. Bamboo viscose is smooth, dense and slippery, so it draws heat off the skin instantly and feels luxurious on contact. Linen is textured and open-weave, so it moves moisture and air continuously instead of just feeling cold. For hot sleepers and night sweats, linen wins on outcome. For people who want a silky hand-feel and a lower entry price, bamboo wins. A 45% linen / 55% bamboo blend gets most of both, which is why we weave one.
First, what "bamboo" actually is
This matters and most comparisons skip it. Almost all "bamboo sheets" are bamboo viscose or rayon — bamboo cellulose dissolved in chemical solvent and extruded as a fibre. It is a regenerated fibre, not a natural one in the way flax is. That is not a criticism, but it explains the properties: viscose is smooth because it is manufactured smooth, and it weakens when wet because regenerated cellulose does. True mechanically-processed "bamboo linen" exists but is rare and expensive.
Linen is flax, retted and spun. Nothing is dissolved. It is the same fibre humans have slept on for four thousand years.

Side by side
- Initial coolness: bamboo. Smooth, dense, high contact area — it feels cold immediately.
- All-night temperature: linen. Hollow flax fibre plus an open weave keeps moving moisture and air; bamboo's dense weave holds it.
- Softness out of the packet: bamboo, clearly. Stonewashed linen is soft but textured; bamboo is silky.
- Durability: linen, by a wide margin. Flax is ~30% stronger than cotton and gets stronger when wet; viscose loses significant strength wet, which is why bamboo sheets thin out after a couple of years of weekly washing.
- Lifespan: linen 10–20 years, bamboo typically 2–4.
- Price: bamboo is cheaper up front. Per year of use, linen is usually cheaper.
- Care: linen tolerates almost anything except bleach and high heat. Bamboo needs cool washes and low heat or it degrades fast.
- Environmental: flax needs little water and no irrigation in Western Europe, and the whole plant is used. Bamboo grows fast but the viscose process is chemically intensive unless it is closed-loop.
- Wrinkles: bamboo stays smoother. Linen creases — that is the look, and it is the main reason people choose one over the other on appearance alone.
Which one should you actually buy?
- Night sweats, menopause, hot climate: linen at 160–175 GSM.
- You want silky, and you change bedding every few years anyway: bamboo.
- Sensitive skin: either, but insist on OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 — it matters more for viscose, because the certification covers chemical residue from processing.
- You hate wrinkles: bamboo, or a bamboo linen blend. Pure linen will always crease.
- Buy once, keep for a decade: linen.

What about a bamboo linen blend?
Our bamboo linen is 45% linen / 55% bamboo rayon, and it exists precisely because the two fibres cover each other's weaknesses. The linen brings breathability, structure and strength; the bamboo brings the smooth hand-feel and reduces creasing. It sits between the two on price, it drapes more heavily than pure linen, and it takes dye more evenly — which is why our brighter colours, including chartreuse, run in this range.
It is not a magic answer: a blend will not last as long as pure flax, because the weaker fibre sets the limit. But if pure linen feels too textured and pure bamboo feels too flimsy, the blend is the honest middle.
Common questions
Are bamboo sheets cooler than linen? They feel cooler for the first few minutes. Over a full night linen manages heat and moisture better.
Which lasts longer, bamboo or linen? Linen, decisively — 10–20 years versus 2–4.
Is bamboo linen real linen? Our bamboo linen contains 45% genuine flax. Products sold as "bamboo linen" elsewhere sometimes contain no flax at all, so check the composition percentage.
Which is better for eczema and sensitive skin? Both can be excellent. Prioritise OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification over the fibre choice.
Do bamboo sheets pill? More than linen does. Linen barely pills; viscose blends pill where there is friction.
Can I get either in a custom size? Yes — both ranges are cut to order, any size at standard price, no minimum order.
