Machine wash cold (30°C / 86°F) on a gentle cycle. Use mild, natural detergent avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which break down natural fibers over time. Tumble dry low or line dry in shade. Warm iron if needed. Wash separately for the first time to prevent color transfer.

How long does shipping take?
Orders typically arrive within 3–4 weeks from the order date. This includes handcrafting time at our Vietnam workshop and international shipping. We'll send you a tracking number as soon as your order is on its way.
Is linen fabric rough or stiff?
New linen may feel crisp at first — this is completely normal. It softens significantly after the first few washes and becomes one of the most comfortable fabrics you'll own. Pre-washing before use is recommended.
I'm buying from Vietnam — is that a concern?
Not at all. We're a Vietnam-based workshop using European flax linen and high quality blended linen and we ship internationally every week. All orders are carefully packed and tracked. If anything goes wrong in transit, we'll make it right.
Will the color fade over time?
Our fabrics are dyed for durability. Avoid bleach and harsh detergents to maintain color. Some natural softening of tone may occur over years of use, which is characteristic of quality linen.
Does linen wrinkle easily?
Yes and that's part of its charm. Linen's natural texture and relaxed wrinkles are a signature of the fabric. If you prefer a smoother look, iron while slightly damp on medium heat.
Can I return or exchange if the size doesn't fit?
Yes. We accept returns within 30 days for unused, unwashed items in original condition. Contact us at scandalinen@gmail.com and we'll guide you through the process.
Are your products safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. We use natural fibers free from harmful chemicals, gentle on all skin types including sensitive skin.
Do you offer gift packaging?
Yes, all orders are packed neatly and suitable for gifting.

The Horizon Line — Hmong Stripe Dyeing on Natural Linen
This Hmong Horizontal Stripe Indigo Linen Scarf draws its quiet power from one of the most fundamental visual elements in Hmong textile tradition: the horizontal stripe. Bands of deep natural indigo alternate with the warm, undyed tone of natural linen on handwoven brocade fabric, creating a rhythm that evokes the layered terraces of Hmong rice fields, the stacked ridgelines of highland mountains, and the steady, grounded pulse of traditional highland life.
The Discipline of the Stripe:
The horizontal stripe pattern is achieved through a precise resist-dyeing process in which sections of the handwoven linen brocade are carefully bound or folded before indigo immersion, creating clean, even bands of color that run across the full width of the fabric. Achieving consistent stripe width and spacing across the entire length of the scarf requires exceptional precision and a steady, practiced hand — skills that Hmong artisans develop over years of dedicated practice.
The interplay between the deep indigo stripes and the warm natural linen ground creates a sophisticated two-tone composition that is simultaneously bold in structure and gentle in palette — a combination that works effortlessly with a wide range of personal styles and interior aesthetics.
Why This Scarf is Extraordinary:
Cultural Significance:
The horizontal stripe is one of the oldest organizing principles in Hmong textile art, reflecting the Hmong people's intimate relationship with the layered highland landscape. The terraced rice fields that cascade down mountain slopes — each terrace a horizontal band carved from the hillside by generations of collective labor — are the most powerful visual symbol of Hmong agricultural civilization. The stripe pattern in Hmong textiles honors this landscape, encoding the memory of the terraces into fabric and carrying it into the wearable world.
The alternation of indigo and natural linen also reflects the Hmong understanding of balance: dark and light, dyed and undyed, human craft and natural material, each stripe giving meaning to the one beside it.
By wearing this scarf, you're carrying a piece of Hmong highland heritage and preserving an endangered cultural heritage that celebrates the beauty of the layered landscape.

Care Instructions:
Hand wash gently in cold water with mild soap. Wash separately for the first wash as natural indigo may release some dye. Air dry flat or hang away from direct sunlight. The natural linen will soften with each wash, and the indigo stripes will develop a beautiful, lived-in patina over time.
