Questions & Answers

How long does shipping take?
Orders typically arrive within 3–4 weeks from the order date. This includes handcrafting time at our Vietnam workshop and international shipping. We'll send you a tracking number as soon as your order is on its way.

Is linen fabric rough or stiff?
New linen may feel crisp at first — this is completely normal. It softens significantly after the first few washes and becomes one of the most comfortable fabrics you'll own. Pre-washing before use is recommended.

I'm buying from Vietnam — is that a concern?
Not at all. We're a Vietnam-based workshop using European flax linen and high quality blended linen and we ship internationally every week. All orders are carefully packed and tracked. If anything goes wrong in transit, we'll make it right.

Will the color fade over time?
Our fabrics are dyed for durability. Avoid bleach and harsh detergents to maintain color. Some natural softening of tone may occur over years of use, which is characteristic of quality linen.

Does linen wrinkle easily?
Yes and that's part of its charm. Linen's natural texture and relaxed wrinkles are a signature of the fabric. If you prefer a smoother look, iron while slightly damp on medium heat.

Can I return or exchange if the size doesn't fit?
Yes. We accept returns within 30 days for unused, unwashed items in original condition. Contact us at scandalinen@gmail.com and we'll guide you through the process.

Are your products safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. We use natural fibers free from harmful chemicals, gentle on all skin types including sensitive skin.

Do you offer gift packaging?
Yes, all orders are packed neatly and suitable for gifting.

The Infinite Grid — Hmong Geometric Mastery in Beeswax and Indigo

This Hmong Grid Pattern Batik Pillow Cover is a masterclass in geometric precision and meditative artisan practice. The full-surface grid pattern — hand-drawn with beeswax across every centimeter of handwoven brocade fabric before natural indigo dyeing — creates a striking, all-over lattice of luminous cream lines against deep blue ground that is simultaneously ancient in origin and strikingly contemporary in aesthetic.

The Discipline of the Grid:

Of all the patterns in Hmong batik tradition, the full-surface grid is among the most demanding to execute. Using a traditional canting tool, the artisan must draw perfectly consistent horizontal and vertical lines across the entire fabric surface — freehand, from memory, without ruler or guide. Each line must maintain consistent width and spacing across the full 45x45cm surface, requiring extraordinary concentration, a steady hand, and years of practice to achieve the precise, even result visible in this piece.

Within the grid, the artisan fills each cell with traditional Hmong micro-motifs — tiny flowers, dots, spirals, and geometric forms that add visual richness and cultural depth to the overall composition. The result is a piece that rewards close inspection: the more you look, the more you discover.

Why This Pillow Cover is Extraordinary:

  • Full-Surface Grid Batik — Every centimeter covered with precise hand-drawn beeswax grid lines
  • Freehand Geometric Precision — Consistent grid drawn without ruler or guide, purely from artisan skill and memory
  • Micro-Motifs Within the Grid — Traditional Hmong symbols fill each cell, adding cultural depth to geometric structure
  • 100% Natural Indigo Dye — Plant-based indigo from mountain herbs, chemical-free and safe for the home
  • Handwoven Brocade Base — Fabric woven on traditional backstrap looms before batik application
  • Contemporary Aesthetic — Grid pattern bridges ancient Hmong craft and modern minimalist design sensibility
  • Supports Hmong Artisans — Preserves demanding batik traditions and provides fair income to highland women

Cultural Significance:

The grid is one of the most ancient organizing principles in Hmong textile art, reflecting the Hmong worldview of order within nature — the belief that the universe is structured, interconnected, and governed by patterns that repeat at every scale. The grid pattern in Hmong batik represents the rice field network, the mountain path system, and the social fabric of community life: each cell a home, each line a path connecting neighbors, each intersection a meeting point of lives and stories.

By choosing this piece, you're preserving an endangered cultural heritage and supporting the artisans who carry these ancient geometric traditions into the future.

Perfect For:

Minimalist and Scandinavian interiors, lovers of geometric pattern, ethnic textile collectors, conscious home decorators, art lovers who appreciate precision craft, fair-trade supporters, and anyone who wants a cushion that bridges traditional artisan heritage and contemporary design.

Styling Tips:

  • The grid pattern works beautifully in both minimalist and maximalist interiors — it anchors without overwhelming
  • Pairs beautifully with natural French linen cushions for a sophisticated, layered look
  • The deep indigo ground complements warm wood tones, rattan, and natural fiber rugs
  • Mix with solid cream or terracotta cushions to let the grid pattern take center stage
