Questions & Answers

How long does shipping take?
Orders typically arrive within 3–4 weeks from the order date. This includes handcrafting time at our Vietnam workshop and international shipping. We'll send you a tracking number as soon as your order is on its way.

Is linen fabric rough or stiff?
New linen may feel crisp at first — this is completely normal. It softens significantly after the first few washes and becomes one of the most comfortable fabrics you'll own. Pre-washing before use is recommended.

I'm buying from Vietnam — is that a concern?
Not at all. We're a Vietnam-based workshop using European flax linen and high quality blended linen and we ship internationally every week. All orders are carefully packed and tracked. If anything goes wrong in transit, we'll make it right.

Will the color fade over time?
Our fabrics are dyed for durability. Avoid bleach and harsh detergents to maintain color. Some natural softening of tone may occur over years of use, which is characteristic of quality linen.

Does linen wrinkle easily?
Yes and that's part of its charm. Linen's natural texture and relaxed wrinkles are a signature of the fabric. If you prefer a smoother look, iron while slightly damp on medium heat.

Can I return or exchange if the size doesn't fit?
Yes. We accept returns within 30 days for unused, unwashed items in original condition. Contact us at scandalinen@gmail.com and we'll guide you through the process.

Are your products safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. We use natural fibers free from harmful chemicals, gentle on all skin types including sensitive skin.

Do you offer gift packaging?
Yes, all orders are packed neatly and suitable for gifting.

The Warmth of Harvest — Hmong Batik in Mustard Yellow

This Hmong Mustard Yellow Batik Pillow Cover radiates the warm, golden energy of the Hmong harvest season. Where most Hmong batik pieces celebrate the deep mystery of natural indigo, this extraordinary cushion cover showcases the equally ancient tradition of botanical yellow dyeing — using turmeric, pomegranate rind, and other mountain plants to achieve the rich, earthy mustard tone that has adorned Hmong ceremonial textiles for thousands of years.

The Art of Hmong Yellow Batik:

Creating this pillow cover requires the same meticulous beeswax batik technique used in our indigo collection, but with a completely different dyeing tradition. A Hmong artisan uses a traditional canting tool to hand-draw intricate patterns with hot beeswax onto handwoven brocade fabric. Every line, curve, and geometric motif is drawn freehand from memory — guided by a lifetime of practice and a cultural vocabulary inherited from mother to daughter across generations.

The waxed fabric is then immersed in a natural yellow dye bath derived from botanical sources. The waxed areas resist the dye, emerging as luminous cream-white patterns against the warm mustard ground when the wax is carefully removed. The result is a striking composition of traditional Hmong motifs rendered in a palette that evokes golden rice fields, autumn harvests, and the warm light of highland sunsets.

Why This Pillow Cover is Extraordinary:

  • Rare Mustard Yellow Batik — Natural botanical dye in warm golden tone, a refreshing alternative to classic indigo
  • Hand-Drawn Beeswax Patterns — Every line drawn freehand with hot beeswax using traditional canting tool
  • 100% Natural Plant Dye — Botanical yellow from turmeric and mountain herbs, chemical-free and eco-friendly
  • Handwoven Brocade Base — Fabric woven on traditional backstrap looms before batik application
  • Warm, Versatile Palette — Mustard yellow complements a wide range of interior styles and color schemes
  • Truly One-of-a-Kind — Each pattern drawn freehand; no two covers share the same design
  • Supports Hmong Artisans — Preserves endangered batik traditions and provides fair income to highland women

The Meaning of Mustard Yellow in Hmong Culture:

In Hmong tradition, yellow and gold tones carry profound meaning — representing the harvest, prosperity, and the life-giving power of the sun. Yellow is the color of ripe rice fields cascading down mountain terraces, of beeswax itself, and of the golden light that bathes the highlands at dawn and dusk. Wearing or displaying yellow is associated with abundance, good fortune, and the gratitude felt at harvest time. This pillow cover brings that energy of warmth and prosperity into your home.

By choosing this piece, you're preserving an endangered cultural heritage and supporting the artisans who keep these ancient botanical dyeing traditions alive.

Perfect For:

Warm and earthy interior styles, bohemian and eclectic home decor, ethnic textile collectors, lovers of mustard and golden tones, conscious home decorators, fair-trade supporters, and anyone who wants to bring warmth, prosperity, and cultural depth into their living space.
